    Mobile platforms require stabilisation for the motion and disturbances coming from both the mobile platform itself and from the system they are mounted on. These effects can be continuous or irregular depending on how a system is used and thus a robust and versatile stabilisation mechanism is required. Physical platforms could be slow or fast moving, and could produce significant vibration and shock as they move. Any stabilisation system must withstand and perform under these conditions to allow its payload to function correctly.

    Accelerometers and gyroscopes are vital in measuring disturbances and feeding back into control and damping systems to ensure accurate and repeatable operation of the complete system.
